This May, we announced new energy saving measures that will reduce the amount of energy used at Kingsmead Leisure Centre by up to a quarter.
It’s part of a commitment from Active Life, in partnership with Canterbury City Council, to be as sustainable as we can be and minimise our impact on the environment.
The £644,000 grant awarded to Canterbury Council from the government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme will not only help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels but will mean a better experience for our customers too.
New air source heat pumps will power underfloor heating in the new wet changing area, with more energy efficient ventilation systems keeping the dry changing rooms, gym and studios cool.
Solar panels, LED lighting throughout the building and electric vehicle charging points, powered by an upgraded on-site substation will further make Kingsmead Leisure one of the greenest leisure facilities in the region. We’ll start to know from the autumn the difference the changes are making and will continue to do all we can at Active Life to work for a more sustainable future.
