Kingsmead Leisure Centre is run by Active Life, a charity set up with the sole purpose to provide sport and leisure facilities to improve people’s lives and wellbeing. On 5th October, the trustees of the charity visited the site to see the progress of the £8m transformation works that are taking place at the site for themselves.
Christine Longmire, the Chair of Active Life Ltd, along with her fellow trustees, Roz Barley, Robert Thomas and Simon Jones, were taken on a tour of the emerging new leisure centre located in the heart of the city in Canterbury.
Christine Longmire said ‘Kingsmead Leisure Centre has always been at the heart of the community in Canterbury. I am delighted to be able to see the progress of the new centre and the state-of-the-art facilities it will offer to our local communities.
‘The link between physical activity and well-being is well documented and we, as a board, were particularly pleased that the program of works was able to keep the only public swimming pool in the area open whilst the majority of the work takes place.’
Derek Hambidge, Business Manager for Active Life said ‘As a registered charity every single member is important to us. Unlike many gyms or leisure facilities, when people take out a membership with us the funds are used for the benefit of our members and that of the local community.’
